On September 11, a group of terrorists attacked New York City and Washington D.C. This was not just an attack on some of America's outstanding and historical buildings, but an attack on the principals of life, liberty and freedom. It was an attack on the United States of America's way of life and our belief in family values, democracy and Christian heritage. It was an attack on the very foundation of this nation. Isaiah 26:3 says, "He will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Jehovah."
This nation was founded on biblical and Godly principals. Although we have been shaken and abhorred by what has happened and perhaps have unanswerable questions, nothing can shake the foundation of this nation. Its foundation of Godly and biblical principles is strong and resilient.
America is one nation under God. It is a nation that many of us from outside its borders view with great admiration. It is a nation of great compassion that is considered the leader of the free world. America is a nation that believes in integrity, always taking care of the needy and less fortunate beyond its shores; always the first to arrive at disasters around the world and lend a helping hand, even giving aid to help rebuild nations she has called her enemy. America is a forgiving and compassionate nation.
The United States of America is a nation that is blessed of God. It has let the world look in on its life, liberty and freedom but at the same time, allowing the world to see its failures, limitations and wounds. It is a nation blessed of God, with many of its people sowing the Gospel message to the ends of the earth; often sowing their own lives for something greater than life itself. Many have invested their lives into people and countries from which they may never realise any return in this world.
In the last few days, Americans' hearts have been heavy, not understanding these malicious attacks, nor knowing how to cope. Psalm 37:39 tells us, "He is our strength in time of trouble and the Lord shall help them and deliver them from the wicked and save them because they trust in Him." Psalm 46:1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble, we will not fear."
Our faith is being tested but not embarrassed. Faith in God was not designed to avoid trouble and confrontation. Faith in God was designed to comfort us in times of pain. Psalm 9:9 says, "The Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble, those who know His name will put their trust in Him, for the Lord has not forsaken those who seek Him." Psalm 138:7 states, "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me."
In the midst of tragedy Job, who lost his home, land, possessions, wife, children and friends, said, "For I know that my Redeemer lives," (19:25). Only in time will the hurt we feel in our hearts subside and then only in the hearts of those who trust in the Lord. You are still God's people and He still loves you!
Isaiah prophesied, "Fear not. I have redeemed you, I have called you by name, you are Mine; when you pass through the waters I will be with you and through the rivers, they shall not overthrow you; when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flames scorch you, for I am with you," (43:18-37). The Father promises to be with you, even when man turns against man. He is our place of refuge.
God will use the current situation to get America's attention. It is time to become the Godly nation it is meant to be. It is time for people to come back to God- not with religion but with relationship.
It is time for the United States of America to rise again and the church to become the Godly, loving, healing and supernatural church God meant it to be.
This is a new day; a new beginning and time for a new move of God. God will empower us in the midst of trouble. The time has come for us to advance and take the land for God. We move forward, not forgetting the past, but learning from it in order to rebuild our lives, our nation and our spiritual heritage.
The leader of the Japanese fleet that attacked Pearl Harbour during World War 2, whilst being congratulated on the success of the attack replied, "We have not won, we have succeeded in causing a sleeping giant to arise and filled them with a terrible resolve."
Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego would not bow to King Nebuchadnezzar's idol. Their resolve (to paraphrase) was, "If we bow down, we burn but if we don't bow down we won't burn for our God is able to deliver us." (see Daniel 3:16-18).
America, you will rise again!
America the great. One nation under God.
